Back again

I know, I know, it's been ages since I updated the library blog. My excuse is that i have been ultra busy getting all the new books out onto the shelves, and then we got the new shelves for the fiction section so that needed sorting out, and then...the scanner stopped working so it took twice as long to issue and return books,  But enough with the excuses reasons.
The two mini displays in the library this term are the health books for our topic, and on the other side are some ideas for Dyer Street's Got Talent.

Term 3 in the library

So  much has happened this term I barely had time to blog about it!
First we had Book Fair; then some huge boxes of new books arrived which all need cataloguing, labelling, and covering; then our Term 3 Duffy Books arrived.
One of the best things to happen was our new fiction shelves donated by Hutt City Libraries- they have made a BIG difference in the fiction section.

ANZAC Day display

ANZAC Day is on 25th April, which is during the school holidays this year, so I put a new display up early. Actually, it's a bit of a test-run for the 100th anniversary of World War One, which is going to be a huge event in New Zealand later on this year. The Hot Topic:War isn't on the blog yet, but we do have a large box of war books on the library desk for you to browse through.  Also have a look at the HUGE posters in the corridor outside the library, I've been saving them for this week.

Check it out! A huge box was delivered to the library, and as you can see it's full of the books you have been asking for (and some you haven't, because I spotted them at the Lower Hutt Library first and bought some for us at Dyer Street School.) Those big books in the background- Solar System and Dinosaurs- are the most amazing books I have ever seen. When we download an app we can HOLD THE PLANETS and DINOSAURS WILL RUN ACROSS THE TABLE! Seriously! I'm working on processing these as fast as I can, so help me out by keeping the library tidy.

I know lots of you LOVE Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Tom Gates books, so I have made a box of books for you to try next. I GUARANTEE you will love them!  Check out Liz Pichon's blog at  to get some drawing ideas, and come and show off your doodling skills in the library. Jeff Kinney's blog is pretty awesome too!

Wow, it has been a busy four weeks since we started back at school.  You may have noticed we have beautiful new blue carpet in the library- so much easier to see Lego pieces before you step on them!
Four boxes of Duffy books have arrived and are waiting to be named so we can give them out to everyone, and we also got some boxes of new Duffy Award books, so keep working hard to earn a certificate.  Don't forget if you are a Dyer Street School student and have a little brother or sister that hasn't started school yet you can choose a Duffy Kids at Home book to give them on their birthday.  Check with Kris to see if your little brother or sister is on the list.
Check out the New Books display in the library to see the new picture books- and get ready for some great new chapter books!

Have a lovely weekend,
